Review: Hoki Poke

Location: 563 Yonge Street, Toronto, Ontario M4Y 1Z2

Website: Hoki Poke

Quick Background:

Poke is a Hawaiian dish that consists of raw fish (tuna, salmon or other seafood), rice/zucchini noodles as a base, combined with a variety of vegetables or proteins (i.e. tofu). Poke can be whatever you want, as many places allow you to build your own (or you can just stick to a signature dish!).

Located at Yonge and Wellesley, this location of Hoki Poke is one of the many places to get poke (pronounced po-kay) in Toronto. Hoki Poke serves poke bowls, sushi burritos, salads, wraps, and etc. Each restaurant that serves poke bowls usually has their own take on poke, but I always find myself coming back to Hoki Poke!

Poke has become one of the latest crazes in Toronto and the colourfulness of the dish is probably what attracts people to it! See below!

Hoki Poke is the ideal place to go when you're feeling for something on the healthier side, but not too filling. The combination of these toppings go perfectly with the rice. The colours of this dish is appetizing to both the eyes and the mouth. Hoki Poke uses a purple rice, which differs from your traditional sushi rice, but it goes together perfectly. Also, if you're like me and always crave sushi on a budget, this is the next best thing.

VERDICT: If you like sushi (which everyone does), you'll love this.
